I’m attending a beautiful chamber music concert in San Marino, just south of Pasadena, this weekend. It’s the Southwest Chamber Music Summer Festival at The Huntington.
It’s part of a beautiful themed food & music summer festival celebrating the centenary of the French Chef, Julia Child.
Child was born in Pasadena. Her years in post-WWII Paris studying and savoring cuisine resulted in her cookbook, Mastering the Art of French Cooking.
In eight concerts throughout July and August under the summer stars, the Grammy® Award-winning ensemble dishes up French Impressionist and French-influenced composers, and concert-goers are encouraged to bring lawn picnics or dine in the The Huntington Tea room.
Sunday evening’s all-French program includes
- Claude Debussy, Suite bergamasque
- Darius Milhaud, La création du monde
- Maurice Ravel, Chansons madécasses
- César Franck, Quintet for Piano & Strings
