Hey, you Sugar Plums and Snowflakes! Stop dancing in our heads, and start whirling ’round the Segerstrom Hall stage. This will occur sooner than you can shake a candy cane. In a real first, Segerstrom Center of the Arts is presenting a big-city-style, lengthy run of American Ballet Theatre’s “The Nutcracker” at the esteemed Orange County performance venue.
Fourteen (count ’em!) holiday performances of “The Nutcracker” with choreography by Alexei Ratmansky are currently tippy-toe’ing their way across the nation from New York. In a brilliant two-for-one offering, the excellent Pacific Symphony provides the pit band in delivering Tchaikowsky’s beloved score. Perusing the alluring cast-listings below, we would never pull favorites from amongst ABT’s wonderful principal dancers. However, were you to insist on rooting for the home team, California’s own Misty Copeland, partnered by human-cannonball Herman Cornejo will rock the house, cast as Clara/The Princess and Nutcracker/The Prince on December 16 and 19.
