Do you think about dance as a form of communication? Italian choreographer Virgilio Sieni does, and he presents his ideas in a rigorous examination of the human gesture that underpins our art form.
A performance of Sieni’s work, ‘Atlante del gesto’ (Atlas of gesture) a commissioned work to soon spool in architect Rem Koolhaus‘s exceptional combined theater/exhibition complex for Fondazione Prada in Milan.
Sieni directs the Dance Sector of the Biennale di Venezia and of Cango, the Florence-based body language and dance production center. arts·meme was honored, in the summer of 2014, to cover his strong curation of the Biennale Dance Festival.
“Atlante ” consists of four sections – Origine (Origin), Rituale (Ritual), Annuncio (Announcement), Gravità (Gravity) and Nudità (Nudity) which unfold on two levels of the Podium building within the Prada arts compound.
‘Atlante del gesto’ is the first performing arts project to be hosted by Fondazione Prada with the intention of expanding the range of knowledge and exploring other instruments of research beyond visual arts.
