The deeply evocative body of work entitled “Reflections Through Time,” a career retrospective of artist Ruth Weisberg now on at Jack Rutberg Fine Arts, literally include  reflections — in the mirror of a ballet studio. Similar treatments of the same captured moment, one an ink drawing, the other a full lithograph, the ballet imagery also indicates Weisberg’s thematic concern in life cycles, memory and continuity. Her breadth of mastery across genres includes painting, drawing, printmaking and large-scale installations.

A highly respected community member, Weisberg is professor of Fine Arts and former Dean of Fine Arts at the University of Southern California where she served since 1995. She recently received the SGC International Printmaker Emeritus Award, a huge accolade for her distinguished record as a printmaker.

A public conversation between gallerist Jack Rutberg and the woman artist he has long represented is on tap next Saturday night at the LaBrea Avenue gallery. Recommended.
