We learned from arts·meme‘s friends at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences that Dame Shirley Bassey will make a special appearance on the Oscars® show broadcast on Oscar Sunday, February 24, at the Dolby Theatre™ at Hollywood & Highland Center.
The sublime chanteuse, a prima diva, Bassey is best known for recording the theme songs for the James Bond films “Goldfinger,” “Diamonds Are Forever” and “Moonraker.”
Bassey is this year celebrating her very own “Diamond Jubilee” with a career spanning over six decades. She has recorded over 44 albums, sold over 135 million records and has sold out concert halls across the world.
Just last week, I was performing research at the UCLA Film & Television Archive.
My assignment concerned sixties television variety programs. One show, dating from 1967, featured Bassey captured live at a cool London nightclub. (It’s not on youtube, you cannot find it there.) She was ballistic — the sexy figure, blasting voice, mascara’ed eyes, bobbed hairdo. What a dame!

Agree, Dana, she is a knockout. Thank you for this comment.
She is stunning. I like it when someone is heralded widely for their brilliance and as you dig deeper you find out that their talent is underestimated. That is Shirley Bassey.
Those Welsh can really belt it out, thinking Tom Jones.
