At long last, recognition. On now at The Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) in downtown Los Angeles, a multimedia exhibition exploring six decades of work by one of the dance world’s most consistent, deep-feeling, witty, and on-message choreographers — SIMONE FORTI. With pleasing accessibility, this minimalist artist of quiet power has taken as her very material the unadorned human body in motion.
Born in Italy and raised in Los Angeles, Forti’s California roots are unassailable having begun her experimentation in tandem with yet another West Coast dance renegade, Anna Halprin. The MOCA show comprises 80 works that span photography, drawings, archival material, video and live, in-gallery performances. Even Simone Forti holograms! It’s inspiring and beautiful and entry is free. So go.
