All of this ebullience is on tap at the Hollywood Pantages Theatre where the cast pictured above, darling, and certainly relieved after a smooth opening night, gathered for a photo. The “kids” surround their “Dolly,” the Tony Award-winning actress Betty Buckley, in the Los Angeles premiere engagement of the Tony Award-winning Best Musical Revival of HELLO, DOLLY!
Very much enjoyed this well-crafted production that is peppered with dance throughout. Warren Carlyle‘s witty and clear-cut choreography nicely references Gower Champion‘s original numbers for the show. The very good dancers had a few stragglers at the edges (they seemed to be cast newcomers), but the front line was superb. The iconic dancing ‘waiter’ long-running gag (Champion’s original concept updated by Carlyle) was a dance delight stem to stern.
The current revival of HELLO, DOLLY! opened on April 20, 2017 and broke the record for best first day of ticket sales in Broadway history, the box office record at the Shubert Theatre twelve times, and shattering The Shubert Organization’s all-time record ten times. We enjoyed being jam-packed in the very full Pantages last night for what is sure to be a well sold run. It’s on for three weeks through February 17. A night of nostalgia and much fun, so go!
