Ford Amphitheatre’s new summer season, a cause to rejoice

Architecture & Design

FordTheatres_byGenniaCuiOnly in Los Angeles, on the grapevine of the Hollywood Freeway as it cuts a swathe from city to Valley, would a “summer season” extend through October 15.

It happens, outdoors, at L.A.’s annual multicultural arts festival — the beloved and historic John Anson Ford Amphitheatre, now on the cusp of reopening after a two-year timeout for significant renovation.

The patient driving, the schlepping and hauling of picnic totes and bags. The pouring and toasting, the sipping and chewing. The rushing, tidying up, and scurrying-to-seats. The schmoozing, seeing-and-being-seen, laffing and clapping. The hike back to cars in cool night air. It’s all set to start again soon! A solid summer season is on offer giving good reason to enjoy the rehabbed facility’s upgraded amenities and landscaping.

But it’s not for the first time that the Ford has had a huge re-do, so our friends at the Los Angeles County Arts Commission inform us. That story coming soon.
