We don’t have kids, so somehow lived through the 1990s (and beyond) without seeing Beauty and the Beast (1991).
It was a great delight to make up for lost time. Last Thursday evening, we attended a centenary celebration of the Walt Disney Company at the marvelous El Capitan Theatre — to be enchanted and entertained by this witty, wonderful movie. All the clever dialogue and voicings (loved Angela Lansbury as the ‘closet’) were made that much better by the sound of kids in the theater squealing with pleasure and squawking at the scary bits. As I mentioned, my living room doesn’t offer those precious sounds.
A few “Belles” were in the house, and made their exit, in their golden dresses, on Hollywood Boulevard.
The Disney folk are hosting these special screenings for everyone — singlets and families, through October. The $25 ticket includes a big bucket of popcorn and a soft drink. You can sit anywhere in the fabulous El Cap, so we went right for first-row balcony. Parking is easy. At Ovation at Hollywood & Highland, validated for $3.
The next up in this summer fun is The Incredibles (2004). And onward from there.
