Saturday afternoon with the in-crowd — and Ramsey Lewis

Music

How much more of an in-crowd guy can you be? The cool cat seated in front of the yellow backdrop is the GRAMMY® Award-winning pianist Ramsey Lewis. Lewis, an NEA Jazz Master who is still rocking it at 85, has a nice invitation to get onto your Saturday schedule — it’s a way to check him out while benefiting jazz musicians who depend on club and other live gigs to make a living.

On Saturday June 27, mid-afternoon, Lewis will live-stream a ticketed solo performance on the platform, Stageit. This so-called “Saturday Salon” takes place on the last Saturday of every month, and features a 60-minute performance.

There is a TON of free content on offer on the Internet. But little of it is live streamed … much less by a jazz icon like Lewis. The performance benefits the Jazz Foundation of America. The JFA is focused on providing emergency, health, housing and job assistance to jazz musicians who have lost a large portion of their income due to the COVID pandemic.

Says Lewis, “Throughout my career people have always been there to help me. Now that I’ve retired from touring, my wife Jan and I thought since I’m still playing everyday anyway why not share it with my fans and help those in need.”

A very nice, generous idea made “real” for jazz lovers around the world via the Internet.
