Luminario Ballet soars into March

Dance

Choreographer/founder Judith FLEX Helle’s high-energy, vivid show-womanship in her eighth season at North Hollywood’s El Portal Theatre strikes us as a perfect kick-off to March. In one work alone, she takes on issues as wide-ranging as equality, drug addiction, betrayal, Black Lives Matter and the Women’s March, all while stretching, gyrating, and revolving midstream above the El Portal stage.

These shows are a lot of fun. The dancers are good. The house is funky and hospitable. The neighborhood is full of restaurants and you can use the Metro to get there. It’s a ball. So go!

Repertory on offer includes:

  • “TRAILS,” about climate change in the California environment music by Phillip Glass
  • “Listen To My Heart,” choreographed by Judith FLEX Helle to “Elaenia” by Floating Points
  • “If the Walls Could Scream,” choreographed for Luminario Ballet by Jamal Story
  • “The Last Supper,” choreographed by Judith FLEX Helle and co-choreographer/dance aerial star Jamal Story
