An exotic and fascinating announcement came across the transom: the inaugural concert of the Hanoi New Music Ensemble, which will focus on three generations of Vietnamese composers.
The program will include works by Vietnamese composers Kim Ngoc Tran, Nguyen Minh Nhat, Dang Huu Phuc, Dang Hong Anh, Tay Nguyen, and Vu Nhat Tan. Dates and venues as follows:
- Sunday Oct. 25, 8 pm, Old Quarter Exchange Cultural Center, 50 Dao Duy Tu, Hoan Kiem, Hanoi
- Thursday Oct. 29, 8 pm, Manzi Art Space, 14 Phan Huy Ich, Ba Dinh, Hanoi
- Saturday Oct. 31, 8 pm, Grand Hall of the Vietnam National Academy of Music, 77 Hao Nam, Dong Da
Conducting the group is its artistic advisor, Grammy Award-winner Jeff von der Schmidt, who also directs the Los Angeles International New Music Festival. Jan Karlin is co-artistic advisor. The concert has the support of the U.S. State Department and the U.S. Embassy in Hanoi.
