1791 was a very good year, says the Los Angeles Philharmonic

Music

Not loving 2017? The Los Angeles Philharmonic has a solution for that. Our symphony orchestra is offering a visit to Walt Disney Concert Hall — that’s already a nice escape — with an added fillip, the delicious prospect of traveling back in time.

The year is 1791, the final one of Mozart’s life. It was a great and prolific time for the composer who died that year on December 5.

The Philharmonic season opens with a concert & gala on September 26, highlighting Mozart’s early works — his time in Salzburg up to his departure for Vienna. Following that festive evening opens Mozart 1791. Programs in this concert series will include the last piano concerto, the Clarinet Concerto, selections from The Magic Flute and other works, all dating from our new favorite year.
