It’s special if only because it will be conducted by Lina González-Granados, who will lead the LA Opera Orchestra premiere of the Grammy Award-winning opera Ainadamar by Argentinian composer Osvaldo Golijov. The opera, dating from 2003, traces the life and work of poet-playwright Federico García Lorca (a trouser role by mezzo-soprano Daniela Mack), who was assassinated for his socialist politics and homosexuality by fascist forces at the start of the Spanish Civil War. A story told through memories of his muse, Catalan actress Margarita Xirgu (soprano Ana María Martínez), the flamenco and rumba-driven opera travels through time, weaving through the truth of realism and the illusions of idealism.

Colombian American conductor Lina González-Granados, praised for her “rich, heartfelt orchestral sound” (Chicago Sun-Times), has distinguished herself nationally and internationally as a singular talent. Her interpretations of the symphonic and operatic repertoire, as well as her dedication to highlighting new and unknown works by Latin American composers, have earned her international recognition. After winning the Fourth Chicago Symphony Orchestra Sir Georg Solti International Conducting Competition, Lina was named the Solti Conducting Apprentice, and served as the assistant to Maestro Riccardo Muti from February 2020 through June 2023. In the fall of 2022, she was appointed Resident Conductor by the LA Opera, a post she will hold through June 2025.
Now is the time to experience her, Los Angeles.
