Through the doors of Abbey Road Studios — at The Wallis

Film · Music

Remember the famous shot …? Taken a few seconds after this one? The crosswalk photo of the Beatles crossing in London’s St John’s Wood before their recording session at Abbey Road Studios, in which the image of a barefooted Paul McCartney spawned a crazed conspiracy theory that Paul was dead? And that John Lennon’s subterfuging of the words “Turn Me On Dead Man” had us ruining our vinyl “White Album” records trying to reverse the sound of “Revolution”??

Those were the days!

But let’s get into some real music history, at an event that will reveal the true pop music history of the Beatles’ favorite recording studio in London. Renowned photographer and filmmaker Mary McCartney and her critically-acclaimed Disney+ film, If These Walls Could Sing charts the long history of the iconic studio, and includes interviews with McCartney and Ringo Starr, alongside Elton John, Nile Rodgers, Noel and Liam Gallagher, Roger Waters, and more.

If These Walls Could Sing is also taking the form of a live, in-person event at The Wallis …

… a live orchestral performance of songs recorded at Abbey Road Studios and conversations. The orchestra will be conducted by Mark Graham, Avengers: Infinity War (2018), The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014) and Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens (2015). The Q&A will be moderated by Academy-Award winning filmmaker Morgan Neville.

Mary McCartney, in photo, will be featured in the event and participate in the Q & A. The full movie, which is available for streaming on Disney + will not be shown at the event — but clips from it will be screened during the Q & A.

It sounds like a cool event… we’re going!
