It’s the holiday season and we’re all nearly croaking of isolation in our cobbled, separated, lonely, despairing but well-worn nests at home. There’s one remaining way to go out and safely be with others. No, not a walk in mother nature. Rather, a big spin on a cinematic mountain-top with Julie Andrews yodeling in The Sound of Music — at a drive-in movie!
You can singalong in your car, but please keep the windows closed; I don’t want to breathe your air. It’s all possible at the cool drive-in cinema in the backyard of American Legion Post 43, the marvelous historic structure on Highland Avenue just down the hill from the Hollywood Bowl. A 30-car drive-in is set up with a state of the art 4K projection system – under the care of the Hollywood Legion Theater’s chief projectionist Taylor Umphenour. He’s been spooling a roster of 35mm analog film, the last three titles of which we are just in time to catch. Holiday fodder!
- The Muppet Christmas Carol – Tuesday Dec 1
- How the Grinch Stole Christmas – Thursday Dec 3
That feels like a really good way for Moms and Dads to be heroes in a time that is such a drag for kids. Go! Enjoy!
