We just loved seeing a creative American like Sonny Rollins honored in the White House. That’s the way it should be every day, not once a year. More arts, education, and humanities in our country! Here, the great jazz saxophonist accepts 2010 National Medal of Arts from President Obama. What a moment!
“I’m very happy that jazz, the greatest American music, is being recognized through this honor, and I’m grateful to accept this award on behalf of the gods of our music,” Rollins said of the award.
Want to hear Sonny Rollins blow, swinging and muscular, in “St. Thomas”? Then see the video posted below our “cool calendar” in arts·meme‘s center column.
