Aspen Santa Fe Ballet brings lush offerings to Los Angeles

The wonderful Aspen Santa Fe Ballet — for eighteen years an unwavering dance pioneer based in the American West in the now established genre of contemporary classical ballet — has been showing up in Los Angeles with increasing frequency. That is a good thing. In this great Rosalie O’Connor photo, dancers Peter Franc and Seia Rassenti display startling classical ballet technique, coupled with keen adventure as performers, as they sync up in choreographer Nicolo Fonte’s “The Heart(s)pace.” The work, flushed in pulpy red, was commissioned by the company for a debut, appropriately enough, last Valentines Day 2014.

Also on the Luckman program, Jorma Elo’s exuberant “Overglow,” set to Mendelssohn and Beethoven and Alejandro Cerrudo’s poignant, “Last.”

Highly recommended.
