Dissent through dance! Learn 15 new ways to talk to Donald Trump

Dance

Here’s how to tell Donald Trump what you think — put your body to it. Ideas of dissent vary in different contexts, according to workshop leader Ananya Chatterjea. A native of Kolkata, India, she also is a professor of theatre arts and dance at the University of Minnesota.

Chatterjea envisions her work in the field of dance as a call to action for women artists of color. Workshop participation will inform a new work, “Shyamali” and its exploration of women’s dissent as a vital force.

In the workshop, Ananya Dance Theatre will explore the organically expanding number 15 (1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 = 15) as they add each participant’s expressions of dissent to build a collective whole. The process may new questions, asking what we find oppressive and why.
