Splashing with Steve Koplowitz at San Diego’s “Trolley Dances”

Architecture & Design · Dance

The life aquatic visits the land-of-the-drought via dance! Choreographer Stephan Koplowitz brings his keen eye for place, space, and unusual context to San Diego’s Trolley Dances for the next two weekends. The site-specific event, staged by San Diego Dance Theater for the past 17 years (a laudable achievement) tours dance lovers — and the just plain curious — across a map of city locations for sun-splashed performance. A special twist this year has the dance event jibing with the centenary of the San Diego’s resplendent Balboa Park. Choreographers include Jean Isaacs, Mark Haim, Liv Isaacs-Nollet, Anne Gehman, Suzanne Forbes-Vierling and Koplowitz, whose dry-land job is as Dean of Dance of the Sharon Disney Lund School of Dance at CalArts.
