REVIEW: Aspen Santa Fe Ballet at Pepperdine

EmailLinkedInPinterestShare

I’ve been following the Aspen Santa Fe Ballet. My first in-depth encounter was at Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival and then I had the rare opportunity, this past summer, to sit in on the adventurous ballet company’s rehearsals at their headquarters in Aspen.

During that visit, I observed Alejandro Cerrudo, the thoughtful Spanish-born choreographer who now works in the U.S., carefully construct a new work he has modestly named “Last.”

It was with great delight that I saw the completed work last night in a rare viewing of the company in Los Angeles — at the Smothers Theater at Pepperdine University. A beautiful and classy work of art.

Read my review in the Los Angeles Times.
