You're absolutely right about Moira Shearer and Anton Walbrook, but I have one small quibble. Women don't 'doff' their evening gowns to go out; they 'don' them. It would be quite a spectacle if every woman came to the theater having doffed her gown! It never occurred to me to reincarnate as Shearer, I was going to settle for being a domestic short hair! I'm going to rethink my future plans and put my hat in the running. Great article. I will now seek out the 1950s film. I missed seeing the restoration because of rehearsals, hope it is shown again, and soon. The Red Shoes was very instrumental in my life. If I was dancing and saw it -- I stopped. If I wasn't dancing -- I returned to my toe shoe ribbons! An amazing film and a glorious actress/dancer. Wow, one of my favorite creatures as well.
