Los Angeles Philharmonic: Adieu, Esa-Pekka Salonen!

esa pekka salonen

Friday night I saw Esa-Pekka Salonen conduct the LA Phil perhaps for the last time. Esa has had a huge impact on my life, as I entered the symphony world under his tutelege. He is retiring as the Phil's conductor after this season. Renowned for his special touch with 20th century music, he conducted Stravinsky and Bartok. The Bartok piece, Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta, was just amazing. Such exquisite sound, and no where on earth as extraordinary as in the Disney Concert Hall.

correction: several commentators note that EPS remains with the Phil for one final season.  my error. / DL

Personal comments on the LA scene (mostly) that are fun to read in a snowbound farmhouse in Western Montana with the wind howling outside this toasty haven.

What about gathering comments from some of your interviewees?
